Open Water Test Simulation for High Skew Propeller with PBCF
The propeller and its propulsion system are very important because they affect the engine power and speed performance of the ship. Now the development of Energy Saving Device (ESD) is very diverse, one of which is the addition of Propeller Boss Cap Fin (PBCF). The working principle of PBCF is to add fins to the propeller boss to reduce the torque value generated by the propeller so that the propeller efficiency value will increase. In this project I created a high skew propeller geometry into a 3D model to be simulated. Boss design adapted to actual conditions. Fin on the boss is added without changing the shape of the boss propeller. Propeller performance assessment is carried out by simulating an open water test. From the simulation, it is found that the propeller distance to the PBCF will affect the flow direction after passing through the propeller blades. So that the addition of PBCF is not able to significantly increase the propeller performance
